Dance Instructor
Maria has been dancing since she was five years old and she has been teaching Greek folk dance for the past 35 years, with an emphasis on dance and musical traditions from Crete. She is very knowledgeable about different styles practiced across the island. Maria has performed dances from various regions of Greece and neighboring countries. She has been a regular member of Astoria-based groups ‘Minos’ and ‘Idomeneas’ as a dancer, instructor, and choreographer.
In addition, Maria was a principal dancer with the group ‘Terpsichore’ in the late 1990’s and now in group ‘Hellenic Roots’. She has also taught dance to children/students at St Demetrios Greek school in Merrick NY for over 20 years. Maria also occasionally attends classes at and performs with the Greek American Folklore Society based in Astoria, NY.
